The UN General Assembly declared 11 December as 'International Mountain Day'. This day highlights the global importance of mountain ecosystems and the unique role of mountain communities. "Managing Mountain Biodiversity for Better Lives" is this year's theme. It is an opportunity to create awareness for the need to sustainably manage mountain biodiversity, to highlight promising models and to build partnerships at all levels to promote biodiversity management with the overall goal to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods, and protect mountain environments for us all.
