The assessment of the threat status of a species is a prerequisite for effective species conservation. Together with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, CAS completed the Chinese Biodiversity Red List - Higher Plants Volume, Vertebrates Volume, and- Fungi Volume in September 2013, May 2015 and May 2018 respectively, providing vital data for biodiversity conservation.
With the "30 by 30" target receiving increased support, a CAS study explored how it could be most effectively implemented. The study developed a framework to identify synergies between biodiversity and carbon across the Asian region and proposed a stepwise approach based on scalable priorities at regional, biome, and national levels that can complement potential Convention on Biological Diversity targets of protecting 30% land in the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
