On the morning of June 8, 2021, "seminar on forest landscape restoration and ecosystem services" was held at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The seminar was hosted by the National Executive Office of the global environment facility (GEF) project of the state-owned forest farm, and undertaken by South-North Institute for sustainable development(SNISD), Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Biodiversity Science Research Association and Beijing ecology society. More than 40 participants, including relevant leaders and experts of the organizer, forestry researchers and students of scientific research institutions, and nearly 150 participants, including project personnel from three pilot provinces, participated in the seminar online. The seminar was co-chaired by prof. Li Dianmo, chief scientist of SNISD, and prof. Ma Keping, deputy director of Biodiversity Committee and Secretariat of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Ms. Sun Yiyun, project manager of IUCN China Representative Office, and prof. Ma Keping delivered speeches respectively. Ms. Sun Yiyun briefly introduced the GEF project, which aims to enhance the ecosystem service function of China's plantation through forest landscape restoration and the reform of state-owned forest farms. Prof. Ma Keping believes that forest landscape restoration is a very important work, an important link in building a good ecological barrier, and is also conducive to promoting the integrated protection of mountains, rivers, forests, lakes, grass and sand.
Zhao Jie, an associate researcher of Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences, introduced the background, conceptual framework, basic principles and application of the concept of forest landscape restoration with the title of "concept and application of forest landscape restoration". Forest landscape restoration is a process aimed at restoring the ecological integrity of post cutting forest landscape or degraded forest landscape and improving human well-being.
Dr. Liu Jing, project manager of the National Executive Office of the GEF project of the state-owned forest farm of the State Forestry and grassland administration, shared the "connotation of the new forest management scheme of the state-owned forest farm". In the report, the basic situation of state-owned forest farms is introduced. At present, there are 4297 state-owned forest farms in China, with a forest land area of 890 million mu, accounting for 8% of the land area. She focused on the connotation of the new forest management plan, mainly through new positioning, new ideas, new goals and new systems to scientifically manage the forest, effectively improve the forest quality and ecological service function, and realize the sustainable development of forestry.
Li Renqiang, associate researcher of Institute of Geographical Sciences and resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, reported on "ecosystem service monitoring and management application of state-owned forest farms". He introduced the content of ecosystem services, described the relationship between natural assets and ecosystem services, shared the content of the monitoring outline of key ecosystem services of state-owned forest farms, and discussed the role of state-owned forest farms in NBS Several important problems in the management and application of state-owned forest farms, such as the synergy benefit of sustainable management of state-owned forest farms and its role in double carbon goal, were discussed.
Researcher Huang Zhilin of the Institute of forest ecological environment and protection, Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences interpreted and shared the key points of the "ecological protection and restoration plan of mountains, rivers, forests, lakes, grass and sand". He first introduced the policy background of planning formulation, shared the ideas and technical approaches of how to apply it at the national, provincial and municipal levels, and finally analyzed the planning of Bijie City, Guizhou Province as a case.
Finally, Liu Xiaojuan, associate researcher of Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made a report on "forest biodiversity and ecosystem function experiment and its application in ecological restoration of National Park". She made a detailed introduction on how to apply the scientific research achievements of biodiversity and ecosystem function to guide the ecological restoration of qianjiangyuan National Park.
After the report, the participants and the speaker had a heated discussion on the goal setting of the state-owned forest farm, the design of forest landscape restoration, and how to combine with the traditional management class. The content of this conference closely follows the international frontier theories and domestic research hotspots, and shows the application of forest landscape restoration concept, ecosystem service and function concept in the fields of state-owned forest farms, landscape, forest, farmland, lake, grass and sand system management, national parks and so on. Through multi-party exchanges and discussions, this seminar provides valuable opinions and suggestions for the GEF project of state-owned forest farm, which will promote the continuous improvement of the project concept and achievements and make it a model for forest landscape restoration.
