2021 China Biological Species List edition released online
The list of biological species is the basic data for understanding biological diversity. Only when the background is clear can it be possible to better conduct research, protection and related decision-making. On the eve of the International Biodiversity Day on May 22, the 2021 version of the "List of Biological Species in China" (hereinafter referred to as the "List") was officially released on May 21. The "List" is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Pilot Project (Class A) "Earth Big Data Science Engineering" (XDA19050202), supported by the Strategic Biological Resources Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, organized by the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, undertaken by the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and united with plants The research institute, the Institute of Microbiology, the Institute of Oceanology, the Chengdu Institute of Biology and many other units have jointly compiled it. The release of the "List" was presided over by the Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. MA Keping from the Institute of Botany.
The 2021 edition of the Chinese List of Biological Species includes 127,950 species and sub-planting units, including 1,15064 species and 12,886 sub-planting units. Among them, there are 56,000 species in the animal kingdom, including 1,445 species of birds, 564 species of mammals, 481 species of amphibians, 463 species of reptiles, and 4949 species of fish; 38,394 species of the plant kingdom, including 31961 species of angiosperms and 289 species of gymnosperms; fungi There are 15095 species in the world. Compared with the 2020 version of the list, the 2021 version adds 4833 species and 837 subspecies units, of which 2477 species and 16 subspecies units are added to the animal kingdom, 601 species and 282 subspecies units are added to the plant kingdom, and the fungus kingdom 2590 species and 557 subspecies units were newly added, and 2 species and 2 subspecies units were newly added in the protozoa kingdom.
