President Director of CRIA visited the Biodiversity Committee, Chinese Academy of Science
On September 25, Prof. Vanderlei Perez Canhos, the President Director of CRIA (Reference Center on Environmental Information) visited the Biodiversity Committee, Chinese Academy of Science (BC-CAS).
Prof. Ma, the Deputy Director and Secretary General of BC-CAS and Prof. Ji, the Deputy Secretary General of BC-CAS met with Prof. Vanderlei Perez Canhos. During the meeting, Prof. Vanderlei Perez Canhos introduced the development of CRIA, which is a not-for-profit, non-government organization. Its aim is to contribute towards a more sustainable use of Brazil's biodiversity through the dissemination of high quality information and education, making biodiversity data freely and openly available via the Internet.
During the meeting, the differences of national checklists in China and Brazil were discussed. And the development of CoL-China was shared with Prof. Vanderlei Perez Canhos.
They had a in-depth discussion on database, data analysis and modelapplication platforms. They exchanged their views on how to resolve the problems encountered in the biodiversity informatics developments, such as the costs, human resources and reluctant to share datas .
The two sides were agreed to make joint efforts in establishing cooperation in biodiversity informatics, so as to better promote international cooperation on biodiversity informatics.
