Compiling of the Species Catalogue of China was a key project initiated and sponsored by CAS in 2013. Its goal is to compile about 60 000 species in 34 issues in three volumes, i.e. plants, animals and fungi, and to update it electronically. The Catalogue will not only provide authoritative and comprehensive species information for protection, monitoring, and sustainable use of China’s biodiversity resources, but also provide scientific support for the Chinese government to fulfill and implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
By the end of 2020, the Species Catalogue of China has been published in 26 volumes:
