A visit to Southeast Asian countries to promote Asian biodiversity information platform

Organized by Biodiversity Committee, Chinese Academy of Sciences (BC-CAS), a visit team went to Southeast Asia countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam during September 18-29, 2016, in order to improve the communications between institutions and Asia Biodiversity Conservation and Database Network (ABCDNet), and promote the Southeast Asia Plant Biodiversity Information Infrastructure (SEADiv).

In the Philippines, the team had a meeting with Dr. Sheila Vergara, Director of Biodiversity Information Management, ASENA Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) as well as participants from FishBase Information and Research Group, Inc. (FIN), University of the Philippines, Species 2000 office in the Philippines and so on. They discussed about data sources, data collection, database development as well as citizen science. Through this visit, we have a systematic understanding of the development of biodiversity informatics, plant resources in these countries. The colleagues from these four countries confirmed the importance of ABCDNet and SEADiv and were willing to maintain the communications with each other. This visit was an important foundation for future cooperation including exchange of researchers, organizing workshops and so on.
