Professor Keping Ma of China is the new Chair for the Regional Members Committee Asia IUCN
The 6th IUCN Asia Regional Conservation Forum was held from August 10 to 12, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand. The theme of the forum, which runs once every four years, was “Resilience in Action: Creating Solutions for People and Nature”. It aimed to secure the health of nature and the future of people in Asia. More than 420 delegates from governments, NGOs, academic institutions and private sectors of 26 countries in South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia and other areas participated.
Dr. Keping Ma, a professor of the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was elected as the new chairman of the IUCN Regional Members Committee for Asia at the Forum. Dr. Ma is also the Secretary General for the Biodiversity Committee, CAS. Since serving as an IUCN councilor from 2007 to 2012, and the vice-chairman of the IUCN Regional Members Committee for Asia in 2014, he once again was elected to hold an important position in the organization. All members believed that he would make great contribution to the development of biodiversity conservation in Asia and beyond.
